OHP Reflection

The Ohio Honors program was a valuable asset for me over the past four years. My experiences through OHP helped shape my worldview and my career. I’m proud to have been a part of this program and excited to see what the future has in store for me.

One of the most impactful things about OHP is their dedication to fostering debates and discussions. I think having so many classes that valued disagreement and discourse surrounding our readings and current events. Our professors were always open to different opinions and often challenged us to think differently and dissect our preconceived notions.

OHP also functioned as a safe space for students who were particularly academically driven and thus prone to stress. Our professors made sure to be there for us as humans first, and that was something I really appreciated. I recall us having class conversations about balancing heavy workloads with taking care of ourselves.

I believe OHP has also prepared me well for future jobs. Having networking opportunities through this program has been a big help in figuring out my career path. One such event was a presentation by School of Visual Communication alum Madeleine Hordinksi, a freelance photojournalist and associate professor at the University of Cincinnati. Getting to hear her perspective on photojournalism and talk to her about her experiences at OU was really helpful to me.

OHP was also great about keeping us informed about different opportunities and highlighting different student experiences. OHP included me as a featured student in their newsletter after my internship, and it was exciting to get to share that experience with the rest of the program as well as hear from other students and their internship experiences.
